Do I Need A Landline for a Home Security System?
Today, there are many households that have gotten rid of their landlines and have chosen to only use cellphones as their direct means of communication. But that’s not the case with every home. With that said, ADT monitoring systems do not require a landline, so there is a landline package option for households that would like one. That option is the Basic Package, which provides exceptional 24/7-security protection.
If you are interested in a security package that works using a landline connection, you should first know that they do in fact use your home landline to operate. What that means is that anytime your security system is activated, your home telephone line is used to communicate with one of six available ADT monitoring centers. At these monitoring centers, a security professional is alerted and is in charge of sending the appropriate emergency personnel to come out to your home—whether that is the police, fire department or EMS.
If you are using your home landline to place a call (for example), the monitoring system will take precedence and use the line. This is done quickly; to ensure that one of the monitoring centers are immediately contacted. Once that’s done, you can then either make or receive incoming calls. This all happens essentially immediately—in a matter of seconds, so you don’t have to worry about not having access to your home phone. It’s fast and it ensures your safety.
Want to know more about the landline-based Basic Package? Don’t be fooled by its name. It provides the ability to directly communicate with an ADT monitoring professional, using a wireless control panel. The wireless control panel features a built-in microphone and receiver. So anytime you need to directly reach ADT monitoring, you have access to a security professional who is able to assist you immediately. The wireless control panel comes standard with the Basic Package, so it’s not an additional piece of equipment.
Also included in the Basic Package are these additional equipment components:
- 3 wireless door/window sensors
- 1 wireless motion detector (which is pet sensitive, so that your pets won’t trigger the alarm while you are away)
- Window decals
- 1 yard sign
ADT monitoring has three other package options that all operate with a wireless connection, using cell towers. ADT monitoring’s wireless systems are equipped with CellGuard® technology. This technology guarantees safe and continuous 24/7 wireless monitoring. Wireless packages options include: the Basic Wireless Package, ADT Pulse® and ADT Pulse + Video. Each caters to homes with various monitoring needs.
The Basic Wireless Package is essentially the same as the Basic Package, except it’s wireless. ADT Pulse provides remote mobile access with the ability to receive notifications and alerts. ADT Pulse + Video adds an additional remote video surveillance feature.
Should you get a landline-based security system? It’s all about assessing your own home monitoring needs. Contact ADT if you have any questions about landline or wireless security systems.
